NOMBI

So, I drive my car with gentle foot, to eke out precious fuel
And the central heating thermostat is turned down as a rule
The solar roof is waiting for the Sun to top the hills
But I’m more concerned today about the chance of toxic spills
Yes it’s true I am a hypocrite to mention my unease
For the gas I use is generally shipped in from overseas
I can’t maintain my lifestyle using only those windmills
But I’m frightened of the outcome if we let you use your drills
I”m not a NIMBY, I’m a NOMBI
Called to war by your attack
And I’m practicing my battle-cry
As you prepare to Frack
You’ve gone too far, you flicked my switch
And now I am impassioned
And from coast to coast the shout goes up
Not On My Bloody Island!
We cannot rely on government to serve us as it should
Killing badgers, spreading GMO and selling off our woods
Paying bonuses to bankers, fighting in illegal wars
Paying bribes to local councils to let Frackers in the door.
So before the flaming water gushes freely from our taps
and the blasting far beneath our feet do cause the walls to crack
We must stand up and recycle, and re-use, reduce, renew.
And give England to our children in the way we wanted to.
Warriors-Sigil-300x300I”m not a NIMBY, I’m a NOMBI
Called to war by your attack
And I’m practicing my battle-cry
As you prepare to Frack
You’ve gone too far, you flicked my switch
And now I am impassioned
And from coast to coast the shout goes up
Not On My Bloody Island!
Ok, so it’s not quite Seize the Day, or Damh the Bard but… 🙂

  1. You’ve mentioned a few of the horrors on my mind lately – how we’ve hurt the ocean, land, air, animal life; the growth of poverty and inequality; and on and on – your poem is wonderful! Loved it 🙂
