
It doesn’t take long to realise that Rome is built on Rome, which is built on Rome. Anyone who has read Terry Pratchett’s Ankh Morpork books will understand the connotations. You can’t dig anywhere without finding more ruins… forget an underground system or basement parking!
Having decided they would keep the ruins and celebrate their heritage, it must come as some considerable annoyance that there are just so flippin’ many of them! And after an hour or so, you also realise that a lot of the ruins are as authentic as Stonehenge, and some even have dates stamped into them as to when they were rebuilt as ruins…
