Well I guessed about three months ago we were due for a new Canon flash, and wanting to upgrade my old 220EX I held off buying the 580EX II… but the announcement today that the flash is listed at £680 makes me realise I quite like my old flash. I’ll wait and see what the price is once the flash is listed on places like Amazon, but with the 580EX II currently £320 I’m unclear as to why I’d want to pay double. Yes, there’s a useful radio trigger option as well as the normal IR and two whole metres increase in range (GN 60 as opposed to 58 on the 580EX II) but really… Double? And it’s 10% heavier… Can’t help thinking ‘fail’. I guess I’ll just wait and see what the 600EX-RT does to the price of the 580XE II when it hits the shops.
