Currently Reading… Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” by Ransom Riggs (Amazon)

***

I’m finding so little time to read books, my ‘to-read’ book pile is towering over me. Just for my own satisfaction, I’ll note in here when I pick up a new book. Don’t expect reviews though – at my age by the time I’ve got to the end I’ve forgotten how it started!

Books were in my mind again last week when the bath, um, overflowed… and the lounge became a minor disaster area. Oblivious, I was in Bristol at San Carlo – very good restaurant – but happily Miss and a couple of friends managed to soak the worst of it away. The solid wood bookshelves proved their worth as well as their aesthetic value, because when I came home not one book was seriously damaged – the jacket of PTerry’s latest book “Thud” was a little wrinkled (and I haven’t read it yet either) but the pages and hard cover were fine. More to the point the rest of his back catalgue – all in hard cover first edition – were still pristine. So too were the Robin Hobb, Tolkein* and, well everything! Wood saves. Buy good solid furniture.

* sadly the Tolkein are not first editions!

Happy Yule!
